Our approach to reviews
Our goal is to verify every review and reduce fabricated feedback, duplicate reviews and coordinated manipulation. We are developing checks on reviewer identity, evidence of product use and patterns of activity.
We want the same review standards to apply to positive and negative feedback. Reports and corrections can be sent to [email protected].
Cases behind the discussion
Product Hunt
On October 1, 2024, WakaTime founder Alan Hamlett reported an experiment in which comments on his Product Hunt launch followed an instruction aimed at language models. He also analysed public account and voting data and classified more than 60% of signups in his dataset as automated. That figure is his estimate, not an independently verified platform-wide count. “Bots, so many Bots,” Alan Hamlett.
G2 and Capterra
A June 17, 2021 order in RingCentral v. Nextiva describes a contractor posting more than 10,000 fake positive reviews on Downdetector and Verified Reviews, plus at least 166 across G2, Capterra and five other sites combined. The order identifies the contractor as working under Nextiva’s former chief marketing officer. The platforms are named as places where reviews were posted. Court order, page 10.
Clutch
In a Reddit thread opened on August 27, 2025, participants discussed sponsorships and verification. One alleged that agencies bought fake reviews without being penalised; another described verification as strict. These are conflicting personal accounts and unverified allegations. “Reviews of Clutch.co?”, r/agency.
